Gifi Software

This is software for the data analysis techniques discussed in

Albert Gifi: Nonlinear Multivariate Analysis
Chichester, Wiley 1990

The HOMALS, PRINCALS, CANALS, OVERALS and ANACOR techniques are also available in the SPSS Categories package. In SAS HOMALS/ANACOR is CORRESP, CANALS is TRANSREG, and PRINCALS is PRINQUAL. In BMDP ANACOR/HOMALS is CA.

The SPSS Categories routines are based on the old FORTRAN code produced by the Department of Data Theory around 1980. This code is also included here.

The main directory has the following subdirectories:

als-80
Macintosh binaries for 68000 and 68020 and PowerMac machines of ANACOR and OVERALS. With an interactive command-line interface. The FORTRAN source is included. Moreover it seems the code is portable to DOS and UNIX as well. By Jan de Leeuw. Based on the old FORTRAN code.
als-pak
Macintosh binary and documentation for a graphical shell around ANACOR, HOMALS, GROUPALS and OVERALS, written with the FaceIt package. By Stef van Buuren. Based on the old FORTRAN code.
ansi
ANSI-C code for a new and improved version of HOMALS/PRINCALS/OVERALS/SPLINALS/MORALS in a single program. Eternally under development. By Jan de Leeuw.
dynamals
Code and binaries for DYNAMALS, a series of programs for fitting dynamic linear systems with optimal scaling. By Frits Bijleveld and Catrien Bijleveld. Under development (08/08/98).
blss
Versions of HOMALS and ANACOR that can be integrated in the BLSS package. Written in C by David Betz.
homals
This is a SunOS binary of a C version of HOMALS which has both the bootstrap and permutation test built-in. With documentation and examples, but without source code (which I have lost --- bummer). By Jan de Leeuw.
octave
Modules for HOMALS written in Octave. By Josep Fortiana.
matlab
This contains the Matlab code written by George Michailides for his dissertation. It also does multilevel. Still (08/08/98) empty.
old
This is the old FORTRAN code produced by the Department of Data Theory around 1980. This is IBM mainframe oriented -- thoroughly out of date as far as concept and style are concerned, but large parts still work. For the old-timers, I have included JCL. By Bert Bettonvil, Jan van Ryckevorsel, Eeke van der Burg, Jacqueline Meulman, Willem Heiser, Rene Verdegaal.
pioneer
PIONEER is a program for the analysis of (social science) data of the form subjects (respondents, objects, etc.) by variables. It emphasizes a graphical representation of the subjects. The program is particularly suited to explore how similar the subjects are. PIONEER is the acronym of Program for Individual-Oriented Numeration Embedded in Empirical Research. By Groenen, P.J.F., Commandeur, J.J., and Meulman, J.J.
xlisp-stat
Interactive versions of ANACOR and HOMALS written in Xlisp-Stat. The HOMALS version is pretty sophisticated as far as options are concerned, but it is also pretty slow on large and medium examples. By Jan de Leeuw. Newer and much nicer version by Jason Bond and George Michailides. This directory also has a version of gifi-gardens by James Hilden-Minton, which was a first step at integrating the Gifi methods in an OOP setup.
R
Version of Homals for R
