UCLA Statistics Ph.D. Application Process

Applications for the Ph.D. Program are only accepted for the Fall Quarter. The deadline for Fall 2013 applications and supporting documents is December 15, 2012.

The deadline for Fall 2012 applications has passed.

Prospective graduate students in statistics need not have an undergraduate statistics major but should have completed at least twelve quarter courses (or eight semester courses) in substantial upper division quantitative work, preferably in mathematics and statistics. For direct admission to the doctoral program, a grade-point average of at least 3.5 must be presented. Applicants who have already obtained a master's degree must have maintained an average of better than 3.5 in graduate study.

Applicants must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test and a GRE Subject Test, preferably in Mathematics, and must submit at least three letters of recommendation from people who can attest to their quantitative skills. International students must also take and submit TOEFL scores or ILETS scores. International students who plan to serve as a Teaching Assistant to help with their financial assistance are highly recommended to take and submit the Test for Spoken English (TSE) scores.

You must fill out two separate applications to complete process: The Department's Application and the UCLA Graduate Division Application.

Please fill out the form and mail it to the Department of Statistics address along with other supplementary documents.

The UCLA Graduate Division Application takes a little more work. Click here to link you to the UCLA Graduate Division application website and complete the six-part (1. Biographical Information, 2. Plans for Graduate Study, 3. Academic History, 4. Test Scores, 5. Survey Information, and 6. Funding Information - fellowship applications) application. Remember: you must complete both the Departmental and Graduate Division application to be considered for our program.
