If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then you should minor in Statistics. The world and the marketplace is awash in data and in need of those who can interpret it. A Statistics minor can teach you the analytical and computer skills needed to predict trends, make decisions, summarize complex information, and clearly present your ideas. Statistics is essential in most fields of research and in business, marketing, manufacturing, medicine and many other fields. A minor in statistics will be invaluable in pursuing a successful career.
Purpose: The minor is designed to provide a solid background in applied and theoretical statistics for students who are majoring in some other discipline.
Entrance: To apply for the Undergraduate Minor, you must first complete either an upper or lower division Statistics class with a C or better. You should also take the Calculus sequence: Math 31A-33B. Then visit Dean M. Dacumos, the Statistics Student Affairs Officer at 8142A Math Sciences Bldg to petition into the minor.
Requirements: Required Upper Division Courses (28 units): Required courses are Statistics M100A, 100B, 100C, M120A or 130A, M120B or 130B, and two additional courses in Statistics. Statistics 199 and 199I cannot both be used toward the additional two courses.
All courses must be taken for a letter grade, with an overall grade-point average of 2.0 or better. A minimum of 20 units applied toward the minor requirements must be in addition to courses applied toward the major requirements or minor requirements in any other Department. Successful completion of the minor is indicated on the transcript and diploma.
