The four major themes of Statistics include:Exploring Data through tables, graphs, and summary measures. Producing Data through observational studies and experiments, and simulations. Probability, the mathematical foundation of chance processes. Inferential Statistics using confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. MaterialsOur required text is Statistics, 3rd edition,
W.W. Norton and Co., 1998, written by UCB professors Freedman, Pisano, and
Purves. . No class reader is available. You will need a graphing calculator
(TI 83+ or 83, but not 85 or 86)) to do your best in this course. Grading PolicyYou are expected to attend classes (MWF) and the
tutorial sessions (Tues or Thurs), to work the examples and exercises in
the text, to complete weekly quizzes, two midterms, and a comprehensive final
exam. Assignments (worth 10 points each) for the previous week are
due at the start of class on Wednesday. Quizzes (worth 10 points each) will
be at the start of class on Fridays. The midterms (worth 100 points each)
will be on Wed April 23rd and on Wed May 21st. The final exam on Mon June
9 or Thus June 12 is worth 200 points. Unfortunately, there are no opportunities
for late assignments or make-up quizzes or exams. To earn an A grade, you
must earn at least 94% of all possible points; A- 90%; B+ 87%; B 84%; B-
80%; C+ 77%; C 74%; C- 70%. Grades are posted on
