Alzheimer's Disease (AD) case study data



Table 1: These data represent the neuropsychiatric (NP) and Imaging data for two Alzheimer's Disease (AD) sub-populations: Amnestic (A) and memory Retrieval Deficit (R).
The imaging data contains the voxel coordinates for the centers (blobX, blobY, blobZ) of spheres of a fixed size (6 mm), the minimum, mean and standard-deviation of the intensities of the SPECT images over the sphere of interest. ROI indices indicate the anatomical location of the sphere in the
brain. TissueType codes for the white-matter (WM=1), gray-matter (GM=2) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF=3); DX= diagnosis; NP_DATE;     VF=Verbal Fluency assessed with animal naming;    VS=Visual Spatial copying ability; TOT_VS;    MMSE=Mini Mental State Exam Score;   
BNT_TOT=modified Boston Naming Test  (15 names);    RECALL=Delayed Recall;    CMTP=CM True-Positive;    CMFP=CM False-Positive;     CMTN=CM True-Negative; CMFN=CM False-Negative;  NP_ED = education level; Verbal fluency was assessed using an animal naming test. The main Encoding Score was: TP-FP=True-Positive - False-Positive, that is the difference between the true-positive and false-positive naming responses for each subject. Trial consisted of an encoding, retention and probe phases. In the encoding phase, visual stimuli (drawings) were presented.  The probe item either matched the present encoding stimulus and was identifyed correctly by subject (true-positive) or did not match  but the subject indicated a match (false-positive). The participants indicated whether or not the probe item was included in the initial set
by a differential button press. The participants were instructed to respond as quickly as possible. 40 Alzheimer's Disease patients were divided (DX) into amnesic disorder (performance on cued recall true positives - false positives = less than 5) and those with a retrieval deficit (performance on cued recall true positives - false positives = greater than 5) based upon the ten word list learning task from the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's disease (CERAD).
