Lab 2: a. Read the paper "Estimation of microcrystalline wax in beeswax". b. Access the data in R as follows: a <- read.table("http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~nchristo/statistics13/beeswax.txt", header=TRUE) Please answer the following questions: 1. Plot the empirical cumulative distribution function (ecdf), the histogram, an the box plot of the percentages of hydrocarbons (second column of the data above). 2. Compute the following percentiles of the hydrocarbons percentages: 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%. 3. It was determined that the average percentage of microcrystalline wax (a synthetic wax) is about 85%. See table 7 in the paper. Suppose that pure beeswax was diluted with 1% microcrystalline wax. Could this be detected? 4. Repeat question 3 with 3% and 5% dilution of pure beeswax with microcrystalline wax. Note: 1. All the graphs must be inserted in a Word document (or other similar software) and your answers must be typed! 2. You will begin the lab on Monday, 09/30 and it is due the following Monday, 10/07.
