Quiz 1 sample responses
• "In general, men have driven faster than women. The peak of the male
values ia a little higher than the peak of the women's values."
Mentions center (kinda, in the first sentence), mentions shape (although
its not clear what the implications of this observation is -- that the most
common male speed is much more popular among males than the most common female
speed is among females?). Written in context, and the first sentence
gives a conclusion. But it is missing much, doesn't have a high level
of detail. I'd give it a 1.5
• According to the histogram, women's speeds are distributed from about 60
mph to a few outlier in the hundreds. There are more women in comparison
to the men. The men's speeds go from slowest of about 80 mhp to the
hundreds."
This type of resopnse was fairly rare. Most responses said nothing
about the spread, however this one mentions only the spread although, to
be fair, also mentions the potential outliers. Notice there is no overall
summary or conclusion. Also, many responses mentioned that there are
more women than men, but this is just an artifact of the distribution of
women/men in the classroom, and doesn't impact the comparison of driving
speeds in any way. Score: 1.
There other responses that I would have scored more highly. For some
examples, see the Discussion Forum.
