Data Sets
Below are some of the datasets we'll use in this class. Some files are paired with an "About" file that tells you the names of the variables and something about how they were collected (if known.) The data files themselves consist of columns of numbers. You can save them onto your own computer by either selecting File: Save As from the Netscape menu or by selecting the data with your mouse and copying them, and then pasting into your own file.
1. Blood
Pressure
15 patients with moderate essential hypertension had supine systolic
blood pressure record immediately before and two hours after taking 25
mg of the drug captopril. The data are provided by Dr. G.A. MAcGregor,
Charing Cross Hospital Meical School, and come to us via Applied Statistics:
Principles and Examples, by D.R. Cox and E.J. Snell, Chapman and Hall,
1981.
2. Class
Data
On the first day of class, we collected some personal information.
Read the survey,
then view the data for 110A and 110B or both combined together. An
explanation of the data file can be found here.
This file combines data from 110A and B.
3. Ozone.lsp
data
These come from the ARC program. You can also find this data
set on your own computer in the same file in which you installed ARC.
(Look under Data and look for ozone.lsp.) This is actually a lisp
file, and not a data file, so I'm not sure how well you can view it. In
principle, you should be able to load it directly into ARC.
4. Old
Faithful.lsp data
These come from the ARC program, so you can find them on your own harddrive
if you installed ARC.
5. Baseball
payroll and wins data.
These also come from ARC.
6. Rats.lsp
Contains ARC-ready data concerning laboratory rats, their weights,
and response to a certain drug.
7. 110A
Midterm Scores
Scrambled, so that you can't tell who's is who's.
8. Salary.lsp
Salary of some faculty at a North Western U.S. College, and also some
measures of their experience, and their gender.
9. bcherry.lsp
Measurements taken on some black cherry trees.
10. Soil Data. Measurements of soil loss on 11 10-square foot plots of farmland. ARC-ready.
11. Lead Data. Measurements of bloodstream lead levels in 33 children exposed to lead and 33 controls.
