bracket1,2=no meaning; I couldn't format the data without these numbers1,2,3,4=no meaning There are two files: paltimes and ntsctimes. The PAL set contains 146 sets of times. The NTSC set contains 105 sets of times. There are 20 single lap times and 20 5-lap total times for each line of the 105 and 146 sets. This data was collected from this site: http://www.geocities.com/smkplayerssite/ PAL(Phase Alternating Line) is a television system developed in the 1960s and is used by most of Europe, Asia, Australia, and Brazil. The top speed achievable by the fastest character in PAL is about 97.5% that of its NTSC equivalent, due to programming and television adaptatations. NTSC(National Television Standards Committee) is used by most of North America, South America, and Japan. In addition to the ~2.5% speed difference, the turning varies slightly, which is why two lists were created. I'm hoping to create comparable statistics to eventually unite the two lists. scorep= The score that determines the order of all the PAL times. This is based on how many hundredths of a second each time is below a certain time. There is a program to calculate these because there are multiple charts to consider. You should only know that the person with better times out of 40 almost always has the higher SR score. scoren=The score that determines the order of all the NTSC times. The PAL Variable names and NTSC variable names are identical except that PAL times have a "p" at the end and NTSC times have an "n" at the end of each variable. All variables are in lower case. All of the times either have the word "5lap" after the course name or "flap" after the course name followed by a "p" for PAL and an "n" for NTSC. mc15lapp=Mario Circuit 1 5-Lap Total PAL dp15lapp=Donut Plains 1 5-Lap Total PAL gv15lapp=Ghost Valley 1 5-Lap Total PAL bc15lapp=Bowser Castle 1 5-Lap Total PAL mc25lapp=Mario Circuit 2 5-Lap Total PAL ci15lapp=Choco Island 1 5-Lap Total PAL gv25lapp=Ghost Valley 2 5-Lap Total PAL dp25lapp=Donut Plains 2 5-Lap Total PAL bc25lapp=Bowser Castle 2 5-Lap Total PAL mc35lapp=Mario Circuit 3 5-Lap Total PAL kb15lapp=Koopa Beach 1 5-Lap Total PAL ci25lapp=Choco Island 2 5-Lap Total PAL vl15lapp=Vanilla Lake 1 5-Lap Total PAL bc35lapp=Bowser Castle 3 5-Lap Total PAL mc45lapp=Mario Circuit 4 5-Lap Total PAL dp35lapp=Donut Plains 3 5-Lap Total PAL kb25lapp=Koopa Beach 2 5-Lap Total PAL gv35lapp=Ghost Valley 3 5-Lap Total PAL vl25lapp=Vanilla Lake 2 5-Lap Total PAL rr5lapp=Rainbow Road 5-Lap Total PAL mc1flapp=Mario Circuit 1 Fastest Lap PAL dp1flapp=Donut Plains 1 Fastest Lap PAL gv1flapp=Ghost Valley 1 Fastest Lap PAL bc1flapp=Bowser Castle 1 Fastest Lap PAL mc2flapp=Mario Circuit 2 Fastest Lap PAL ci1flapp=Choco Island 1 Fastest Lap PAL gv2flapp=Ghost Valley 2 Fastest Lap PAL dp2flapp=Donut Plains 2 Fastest Lap PAL bc2flapp=Bowser Castle 2 Fastest Lap PAL mc3flapp=Mario Circuit 3 Fastest Lap PAL kb1flapp=Koopa Beach 1 Fastest Lap PAL ci2flapp=Choco Island 2 Fastest Lap PAL vl1flapp=Vanilla Lake 1 Fastest Lap PAL bc3flapp=Bowser Castle 3 Fastest Lap PAL mc4flapp=Mario Circuit 4 Fastest Lap PAL dp3flapp=Donut Plains 3 Fastest Lap PAL kb2flapp=Koopa Beach 2 Fastest Lap PAL gv3flapp=Ghost Valley 3 Fastest Lap PAL vl2flapp=Vanilla Lake 2 Fastest Lap PAL rrflapp=Rainbow Road Fastest Lap PAL mc15lapn=Mario Circuit 1 Fastest Lap NTSC dp15lapn=Donut Plains 1 Fastest Lap NTSC gv15lapn=Ghost Valley 1 Fastest Lap NTSC bc15lapn=Bowser Castle 1 Fastest Lap NTSC mc25lapn=Mario Circuit 2 Fastest Lap NTSC ci15lapn=Choco Island 1 Fastest Lap NTSC gv25lapn=Ghost Valley 2 Fastest Lap NTSC dp25lapn=Donut Plains 2 Fastest Lap NTSC bc25lapn=Bowser Castle 2 Fastest Lap NTSC mc35lapn=Mario Circuit 3 Fastest Lap NTSC kb15lapn=Koopa Beach 1 Fastest Lap NTSC ci25lapn=Choco Island 2 Fastest Lap NTSC vl15lapn=Vanilla Lake 1 Fastest Lap NTSC bc35lapn=Bowser Castle 3 Fastest Lap NTSC mc45lapn=Mario Circuit 4 Fastest Lap NTSC dp35lapn=Donut Plains 3 Fastest Lap NTSC kb25lapn=Koopa Beach 2 Fastest Lap NTSC gv35lapn=Ghost Valley 3 Fastest Lap NTSC vl25lapn=Vanilla Lake 2 Fastest Lap NTSC rr5lapn=Rainbow Road Fastest Lap NTSC mc1flapn=Mario Circuit 1 Fastest Lap NTSC dp1flapn=Donut Plains 1 Fastest Lap NTSC gv1flapn=Ghost Valley 1 Fastest Lap NTSC bc1flapn=Bowser Castle 1 Fastest Lap NTSC mc2flapn=Mario Circuit 2 Fastest Lap NTSC ci1flapn=Choco Island 1 Fastest Lap NTSC gv2flapn=Ghost Valley 2 Fastest Lap NTSC dp2flapn=Donut Plains 2 Fastest Lap NTSC bc2flapn=Bowser Castle 2 Fastest Lap NTSC mc3flapn=Mario Circuit 3 Fastest Lap NTSC kb1flapn=Koopa Beach 1 Fastest Lap NTSC ci2flapn=Choco Island 2 Fastest Lap NTSC vl1flapn=Vanilla Lake 1 Fastest Lap NTSC bc3flapn=Bowser Castle 3 Fastest Lap NTSC mc4flapn=Mario Circuit 4 Fastest Lap NTSC dp3flapn=Donut Plains 3 Fastest Lap NTSC kb2flapn=Koopa Beach 2 Fastest Lap NTSC gv3flapn=Ghost Valley 3 Fastest Lap NTSC vl2flapn=Vanilla Lake 2 Fastest Lap NTSC rrflapn=Rainbow Road Fastest Lap NTSC These times were accomplished by 251 players from 1997 to 2005. The top players have logged upwards of 1000 hours. In 2002, new speed boosting and sliding techniques were discovered and many players who became active were using these boosts and slides to improve their fastest one lap attempts by 1 to 2 seconds and 5 consecutive lap totals by 1 to 10 seconds. This sent the SR scores for PAL and NTSC into the higher negative ranks, far surpassing most of the retired players' times. I originally intended to compare the distributions of only the NTSC players' times, but there is greater benefit with a PAL/NTSC comparison. You should compare PAL and NTSC only within a course. You can match up the fast lap or 5 lap totals, or compare a fast lap in one system to a 5 lap total in the other. Don't be overwhelmed by the data set. There are strong relationships everywhere, assuming not causal, unless players from one system like to compete with their online friends from another.
