"year" is the year the movie was released. "length" is the running time of the movie. "rating" is a number between 0 and 100 representing an average of scores given by film critics as calculated by www.metacritic.com. "foreign" is equal to 1 if the film is foreign and 0 if it has a USA origin. We want to see if a movie's running time has any effect on how well critics receive a movie. Are short movies seen as sloppy or rushed? Do unusally long movies bore critics? The foreign variable adds an optional depth of analysis. You can regress it against length or rating to see if it reveals any new insights. As far as I can tell, the observations are independent of each other and I drew this sample in a random fashion from Metacritic's database which consists of mostly recent movies and a few older ones.
