Gretchen Davis

Some Personal Insights into Correlation and Regression

Looking at bivariate data from a geometric point of view may help our
students have a better understanding of the power and beauty of linear
regression. Gretchen will share materials that are appropriate for Advanced
Placement Statistics students as well as students taking an introductory
course at the college level. Some demonstrations will be on a graphing calculator,
and if you have one, you may want to bring it to follow along.

Ms. Davis is the current UCLA Statistics High School Teacher in Residence.  She is recently retired from Santa Monica High School, where she taught statistics and mathematics.  She has been recognized as Santa Monica-Malibu Union School District  Mentor Teacher and Teacher of the Year, is a Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellow in Statistics, and has received the GTE GIFT award, PTA Service awards, 2000 Konold Award for excellence in teaching, and the 1998 Polya award for teaching and service.
