Using Fathom Dynamic Statistics Software in the Classroom
Fathom Dynamic Statistics Software was designed to bring data into the
teaching of mathematics and statistics at the secondary and lower-division
college levels. In this seminar you will experience some of the ways Fathom
can be used in teaching statistics for data exploration and simulation,
with an emphasis on visualization of statistical concepts and processes.
Bill Finzer has been designing and programming software for learning
and doing data analysis and statistics since 1981. He has taught K-4, high
school, and college and was one of the original IMP Program directors (before
he gave it up to go back to software development). His professional life
at KCP Technologies revolves around the Fathom project, which he leads,
and includes giving workshops, designing curriculum, programming, and software
design. Recently, with great determination and equal humility, he began
to learn to play viola.
