Lab Manuals:
There was some confusion, some of it was my fault.  To get your lab manual from The Pulse, Ackerman Union, tell them you are from Prof. Gould's class.  I told you to say you were from Stats M11 which is wrong for a number of reasons.

Also, apparently the good folks at Pulse were confused earlier, and turned some of you away somewhat harshly.  This has been straightened out now, and they know exactly what you mean when you say you need a lab manual.

Econ M40/Stats M11 Room Change
The room for this class was changed a few weeks ago.  If you registered early and did not check with URSA, you might haved missed it.  The actual room for Stats M11, Econ M40 is Franz 1260.  I told Prof. Wu that a couple of you came to my class instead, so there should not be a problem.

Homework 2
Some have pointed out problems with the numbering of the homework.  It seems the numbers in my book don't necessarily conform with everyone elses.  (Although it also seems that the numbering is not the same for all books.)  So I will try to give the first sentence of the problem so that you can figure out which ones I mean:

2.2, p. 68, #14 "Use Newcomb's data in Exmaple 2.8 to estimate the speed of light."

2.3, p. 80, #15 "The following observations were made of the weights (in kilograms) of 12-year old boys."
2.3, p. 80, #17, "The multiple choice questions in this exercise refer to the histograms below hich show the distribution of dialy high temperatures in 1987...."

2.5, p. 96, "Mystery".  Comes underneath number 3.  Begins "The following tables contain the caualty data from a certain disaster.  People are classified by..."

LABS
The current set of available labs can all be downloaded off the net at http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~rgould/m12s01/labs.html

Textbooks:  If you have the first edition of the textbook, then you must exchange it TODAY (April 12, 2001) at the bookstore.  It is a used version, and so you will have to pay the difference between the used and new version.  But the second edition is radically different from the first.

Change in Office Hours
I will hold an extra office hour on Friday, April 27, 4-5pm.  I will NOT have an office hour on Monday, April 30 because of a conflicting appointment. Sorry.

Lab 4, originally due May1, is now May 3.  Apparently the server crashed, preventing any work from being done.   Note that there's no lab assigned on May 1, and so you can work on that lab then.
