Write down the essay questions in your bluebook when they appear. Do a little
work on them (in the bluebook) and see how far you can get. If you get
stuck, use the chatroom (or talk to some friends) to "unstuck" yourself.
Maybe you can use one of the "search engines" on the homepage to help
you find more information. You use the bluebook to keep notes in and
keep track of your progress.
By the end of the quarter, you should have two problems that you can write
down about a page worth of solutions on. Do this for two problems and
hand them in (typed -- just like you would any paper in an humanities class.)
For more information, see the <HTML> <A HREF =
"http://www.stat.ucla.edu/~rgould/154a1www/essayhelp.html"> page about the
essays.</A> These pages outline the process you should follow and tell you
about the format.
If you have further questions, post them here so that everyone in the class
can see them.
