Alzheimer's Research
Alzheimer's Disease Research
This page is not meant to provide information about the state of AD research,
but instead reports on some of UCSD

For an informal, walk-through tour of the analysis, click on the
figure above. Be forewarned, though, that this tour is very informal
and very incomplete. At the moment, at least.
Currently, we are studying rates of change of various measures on a cohort
of roughly 400 AD subjects and controls. We have planned three papers,
and abstracts will be provided below as available. The first is a discussion
of methods, and the following two will report results.
Papers
- Rate of cognitive change in Alzheimer's disease: methodological approaches using random effects models, Gould, Robert, Galasko, Doug, Salmon, David, and Abramson, Ian.
- Work in progress with the Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC) at
UCSD.
Talk
We recently presented some preliminary results at the American Academy
of Neurologists meeting in Seattle, May 1995. The talk was titled
"Rate of Cognitive Decline in Alzheimer Disease: Relationship to
Clinical and Biological Factors",
D. Galasko, R. Gould, I. Abramson, D.
Salmon, L.J. Thal, R. Katzman.
The abstract is available.
Best Linear Unbiased Predictors
The Best Linear Unbiased Predictor, or BLUP, is prominently featured
in our work. When completed, the
BLUP Page will contain instructional
material about the BLUP as well as downloadable software to compute
the BLUP, using the REML algorithm. Hopefully there will also be nice pictures.
The data from the ADRC study will be used to provide illustrative examples.
At the moment, the links from the BLUP page intersect with the links
from this page.
